What is a Christian Science Reading Room?

What is its purpose?

Reading Rooms, like the one in Chagrin Falls, are found in communities around the world. They have been serving the public for over 100 years! Some are located in shopping areas; others in major airports or commercial office buildings; while still others are nestled alongside a Christian Science church building.

Our Reading Room is located at One North Franklin St. in Chagrin Falls. Hours are:

10 am to 3 pm Weekdays
10 am to 1 pm Saturdays

Sunday for an hour after the church service

The Reading Room has two purposes. The first is to serve as a source for Christian Science books and publications. Among the wide selection of books available for sale are The Bible, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and other writings by Mary Baker Eddy. The Reading Room also has Bible study aids including translations, concordances, word studies and commentaries.

Books, magazines, study aids and other materials can be purchased at the Reading Room.

The Reading Room also sells The Christian Science Journal, Christian Science Sentinel and the Pulitzer Prize-winning Christian Science Monitor. Many of the publications may also be borrowed from our lending library.

Many products are on display.

The second purpose of the Reading Room is to provide a comfortable place for individuals to quietly read, study and pray. Many people use the Reading Room to study the weekly Bible Lesson, listen to podcasts and view videos over the Internet, or listen to hymns and inspirational music. It is easy to access resources such as the Bible and Christian Science publications as well as archives of the Journal and Sentinel, dating back to the late 1880's. Computer keyword search and Internet access is also available.
